Blogger Interview With Hwa Sun Kang | UBM

I am so excited to bring you this interview today. As a part of  the Utah Book Month blogger-to-blogger interviews, I got to interview Hwa Sun Kang from The Shangri La of Books! Hwa Sun is a newer blogger on the scene, bringing some mad skills (you should see the covers she designed for a cover design contest), and a big passion for reading. She also writes!
Read the interview, then check out her blog and give her some love!

What made you decide to start a book blog, and how long have you been blogging?
I've been blogging for 4 months, and I started a book blog because I love rambling on about books, but there aren't many people that I know who like listening to my ramblings. Now, I have my own little corner of the Internet to blab on as much as I want :)

On your About page you talk about how important the name of your blog is (it's awesome, by the way), and the long list of names you came up with in the process of choosing it. What are some examples of blog names you almost went with, but didn't?
OMG, picking a name for my blog was so, so, SO HARD because I'm very picky with names. By now, I've forgotten most of them, but there still are a few that I remember (and I wrote why I liked it next to it):

-Walking in a Book-filled Wonderland (I love Christmas carols.)
-Peachy Books (1. I love peaches 2. I lived in Georgia AKA the peach state for 5 years and 3. Peachy means great.)
-Hungry for Books (I eat a lot.)
-Slightly different versions of The Shangri La of Books using Arcadia, Elysium, Empyrean, etc. (They're all synonyms to "utopia" or "heaven," and I love fancy words.)

What is your favorite genre?
I honestly don't know. There really isn't one particular one that I like best. I'm not too picky about which books I read, and so I read from lots of different genres. I will, however, narrow it down (somewhat) by saying that I like YA books the best because I am a young adult.

What are three of your favorite books written by Utah authors?
I've only read a couple of books by Utah authors, so...

1. Destined by Aprilynne Pike (She doesn't live in Utah anymore, though. She was born in Utah, though!)
2. Matched by Ally Condie
3. N/A (Hopefully I'll have a third one by the end of this month.)

Of the books you named above, which world would you most like to live in, and why?
Well, I certainly don't want to live in the Society, so I'd have to choose Avalon. I don't really like or agree with their social status systems, but the place itself sounds beautiful, and come on: faeries live there. That itself is enough reason for me.

And finally, who is your favorite heroine of all time?
Hermione Granger. Let's face it guys, she's awesome :)

Hermione is most definitely awesome! Great choice.
Thanks for answering my questions, Hwa Sun. I'm glad you decided to start blogging!

About Hwa Sun
Hi :) My name is Hwa Sun (NOT HWA!!!) and I'm a teenage girl who has been a bibliophile since the 4th grade. I'm a book blogging newbie, and my preferred genre is anything YA. My favorite books in the world are the Harry Potter series. When not reading (or blogging) I spend my time singing, dancing, and writing.

  3. I love the alternate blog names! But I think she went with the best one. :) I'm a fan of those Aprilynne Pike books, too. I think we should still claim her as a Utah author.
