T.G.Ayer Interview + Giveaway | Book Tour

Welcome to the Dead Radiance blog tour! As part of the tour, I have Dead Radiance author T.G. Ayer here to talk about what inspires her writing.

Inspiration For My Writing
by T.G. Ayer

Everything inspires me to write. The world. People. Life.

Conversations I overhear in coffee shops of supermarket inspire possible plot options. I usually people watch- which makes me wonder what kind of lives people live and where they will go next. Family interaction, disagreements, life experiences. It's never-ending the kind of plot fodder that life throws at you.

I write fantasy/paranormal, so my inspiration is my reading of world mythology and legend, my intrigue with those subjects and my overactive imagination.

Sometimes an idea will slam into my brain while I am watching a movie or a tv program, so I scribble it down immediately (DH and girls generally roll their eyes when this happens. I'm sure they are thinking 'There she goes again.')

Sometimes is something I've read in an interesting book that makes me think about how I would interpret the topic or idea. Or sometimes I'd just get a flash of a scene while reading a book that is totally unrelated. Who knows how that happens or why?

Curiosity. I have many ideas floating around in my head and sometimes one idea or character will bug me more that the others, and then I will simply die of curiosity if I didn't write and find out what happens next.

The human condition- I've always been fascination by the human mind, how we are built psychologically, why we are the way we are and do the things we do. What breeds evil in the mind of a simple man? What creates kindness in the heart of an abused child? What fosters hope when everything seems hopeless?

And lastly it's the word WHY. I'm perpetually curious. I have to know the answer to everything (and yes, I was a nerd when I was young and quite frankly I think I never grew out of that condition).

Thanks for your post, T.G. Ayer! I love that you like to know the answers to everything; needing to know 'why,' definitely makes for some great stories--made up, or not! :)

About T.G. Ayer
I have been a writer from the time I was old enough to recognise that reading was a  doorway into my imagination. Poetry was my first foray into the art of the written word. Books were my best friends, my escape, my haven. I am essentially a recluse but this part of my personality is impossible to practise given I have two teenage daughters, who are  actually my friends, my tea-makers, my  confidantes… I am blessed with a husband who has left me for golf. It’s a fair trade as I have left him for writing. We are both passionate  supporters of each other's loves – it works wonderfully…

My heart is currently broken in two. One half resides in South Africa where my old roots still remain, and my heart still longs for the endless beaches and the smell of moist soil after a summer downpour. My love for Ma Afrika will never fade. The other half of me has been transplanted to the Land of the Long White Cloud. The land of the Taniwha, beautiful Maraes, and volcanoes. The land of green, pure beauty that truly inspires. And because I am so torn between these two lands – I shall forever remain cross-eyed.
