Post-Match Tournament of Heroines Update + INT Giveaway! *Closed*

Katniss' first match has ended, and she is the winner!

Woohoo!!!

A BIG thank you to everyone who posted, tweeted, and most of all, VOTED for Katniss! You ROCK!

While I'm excited for Katniss' win, I am sorry to see someone who sounds to be such a great heroine out of the tournament. I want to give a big thank you to Grace, from Words Like Silver, for representing Fire so well. I have actually decided to give the book another try after reading her argument (Fire sounds awesome); which is--I realize now--a benefit of the tournament: finding great characters to read about.

So what's up next for Katniss?

Her next match is on Dec. 23rd, against Sophie from Hex Hall.

  • Mark your calendars and come out to vote on that day! Whether you're voting for Katniss or Sophie, we want you there.
  • Team Katniss: Let's post, tweet, and talk about it as much as we can! I know it will be right in the middle of the Holidays, but hopefully we can all spare some moments to get the word out. You all did so great with this match. Let's do it again for round two!!
  • Don't forget that I'll be tweeting at @readingfever, using the hashtags: #TEAMKATNISS and #HEROINETOURNEY. You will find THE most up to date info there.

  1. My favorite supporting line for Katniss is: "She takes what the world gives her and reacts to it in a way that benefits those around her; letting love, compassion, and fear guide her." It is so perfect for her.

  2. I loved the Hunger games series but some books weren't as good as others :( Can't wait for the movie :)

  3. Yay Katniss! =) Though it's almost too bad we have to eliminate other awesome heroines in order to support our favourites.

I'm not sure about a most influential line, because for the most part I've voted for my favourite character with or without the defence... but I loved the one line from Luna's: "I'm not going to say anything bad about Sophie. Luna wouldn't, and as her representative why should I?" ... I love that, because some people seem to think you need to put down the other heroines in order to show support for your favourite, which is really too bad. It doesn't have to be all kumbaya, but a little respect is nice, so I really liked that particular line.

    Thanks for the giveaway! =)

  7. just like Candice said, i like "She takes what the world gives her and reacts to it in a way that benefits those around her; letting love, compassion, and fear guide her." i don't know why, it just seems to fit :) and as for the most influential...i don't know...

  8. OH! What an amazing Necklace!!! I put this book into all my students hands! Now my students and I have conversations about motives behind Snow and Coin's moves. I LOVE IT! and I teach math, which makes me even more excited about it!

  9. Whoops! I forgot my fav quote: “I am not pretty. I am not beautiful. I am as radiant as the sun”. A different way to look at "beauty"

  11. "Forget the girl who was on fire; remember the girl who IS Fire."
Though I voted for Katniss, this line did tempt me to vote for Fire. :D

  12. Favorite line: "Everything Katniss does in the series can be attributed to one of these: love, compassion, fear"

Many things drives us to do something that has significant importance to us and this line is what does it for me too. I can relate to Katniss in her courage and strength to push on during the games not out of her benefit, but for her love ones. When I read THG I wanted to be just like her.

  14. She's not your stereotypical heroine. She's not the amazing girl who's overcome every obstacle in her life with little difficulty and who has a happily ever after ending. This girl has been through hell and back.

Thank you for the great giveaway!

  16. I was already Team Katniss but this line was powerful!
Katniss has already been through the hunger games, has witnessed the pain, torture, and death, of loved ones, has been forced to kill, seen her home destroyed, and has witnessed the extreme lengths the Capitol will go to in order to have total control--and yet these things only empower her to act.

  17. My favorite line came from the Fire argument actually. I don't remember it exactly, but it was the first line. It was like forget about the girl on fire... girl that is fire. I was like...wow! But I love Katniss though so I had to vote for her (and you). I'll remember to check in on the 23rd.

  21. I have been seeing a bit for the tournament things and follow that blog but I am still a bit confused on it. Sadly I don't get to read very many new books. Thanks for the giveaway though, I have heard so much about the hunger games from my aunt and I think she would like this if I won it for her.
