Foreign Cover Friday: Paranormalcy

Foreign Cover Friday is a weekly meme hosted by me (The Reading Fever), where foreign covers of the books we know and love are spotlighted and discussed. To join, either pick your favorite foreign cover, or pick many foreign covers, and start discussing!

This week's featured cover is:

Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

A quick pick for this week; most of the foreign covers are similar to the US cover, but there are four very unique covers as well. Enjoy!

 Covers: Finnish, Polish
Finnish translation: Psychic

Polish translation: Psychic

Covers: Spanish, Turkish

 Covers: German, Portuguese, Russian

German translation: Flames n 'Roses: A Life Less Supernatural
Portuguese translation: Paranormal

Russian translation: Prediction of the Elves

Cover: Italian
Italian translation: Paranormally or Paranormal mind (I can't tell which is the right translation.)

My favorite is definitely the Italian cover. It's got that fantastical feel to it, but with the girl's hair flying up around her it manages to display the paranormal feeling really well. I really like this cover and want one for myself!

I'm not a fan of the others, even the US cover; it looks too much like other YA covers out there--girl, dress, wind blowing her hair--to stand out to me. I do like the bright pink silhouette on the lace backgroung that's on the German cover though; the main character, Evie, would love it!

What are your thoughts?
Which covers do you like? Which do you hate?

Thanks for joining me for Foreign Cover Friday!

  1. I almost chose to do Paranormalcy this week! Good thing I didn't. My favourite is definitely the Italian cover. I don't like the Germen or Russian and I think the Portuguese cover is far too grown up for a book that I believe is aimed at the middle grade or at least the younger part of YA. But seriously, I LOVE the Italian cover. I want the jacket so I can exchange it with my UK version.

  2. I have not read the book but the German version seems a bit odd to me. It almost has a chick-lity (?) feel to it. I agree that the Italian version is stunning!

  4. I quite like the German cover and I agree Evie would love it but I think it's maybe a bit too pink :)

There really isn't any of these covers that I absolutely love.

  5. Lissa: Lol, what a coincidence! Anyway, I love your idea of exchanging the dust jackets!

Selina: You're right. The German cover feels like the wrong genre. I can't help but love it, though! :)

The Reading Owl: Another score for the Italian cover! :) And I agree about the German cover...I just really like it!

Jules: Hahaha, you can never have too much pink! ;)

  6. Ooh the German one!! I like it just because it's so cute and different, and I've always thought that the Paranormalcy and Supernaturally covers are FAR too serious and typical paranormal looking for how fun the books are.

Hmmmm that Italian one. That cover picture is on another book, but I can't think of which one offhand.

I love the US (of course) and the Italian one is pretty great! :)

  9. The Italian cover is my fave as well. I would have picked the US cover but I agree that it doesn't stand out from other US YA covers even if it is pretty.

  10. Oh they are all so different!
Probably prefer Italian after the UK/US one.

  11. Ashley: I agree! I like the German cover because it's light and cute, just like the book.

Juju: Agreed, but I still really like the cover. :)

Amber: Woohoo! LOVE that Italian cover.

Gina: Hahahaha, yes. Yes it is.

    Carrie: Isn't it?

Alexis: Yep. It's pretty, but is just one in a sea of many just like it.

Books for Company: Italian ftw! :)
