Foreign Cover Friday: Hex Hall

Foreign Cover Friday is a weekly meme hosted by me (The Reading Fever), where foreign covers of the books we know and love are spotlighted and discussed. To join, either pick your favorite foreign cover, or pick many foreign covers, and start discussing!

This week's featured cover is:

Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
See it on Goodreads
Okay, so I haven't read this book yet, but it's been sitting on my Nook for ages, and I needed some motivation to finally read it. Voila! Foreign Cover Friday pick. :)
This US cover is actually what first had me interested in the book. It clearly illustrates that something is different about the innocent-looking school uniform-wearing girl. I am also a sucker for pretty colors, and that turquoise water and green dress are awesome.

Now to the other covers!

Covers: French,  Portuguese, & Turkish
These are basically the same as the US cover, and I feel the exact same about them.

Turkish translation: Novice Witch

Covers: German & Bulgarian
Love, love, LOVE the German cover. The rosey hues, the cracked and aging texture, the title font, and the gradient on the title...I love it all! The Bulgarian cover is a different story. I'm not sure what's going on here, and not having read the book, I'm not sure if this is a scene from the book or not. But really? It looks like a scene from a college Halloween party....

German translation: Rough Magic
Bulgarian translation: Hex Hall

Covers: Polish & Spanish
The Polish cover is alright; I don't hate if, but I don't love it either. The Spanish cover is pretty awesome, though. I don't know what the smoke represents (is the MC a smoker?), but the smoke flower is cool.

Polish translation: Girls With Hex Hall
(which I think is really supposed to translate to something like: Girls at Hex Hall)
Spanish translation: Hex Hall: Conviction

Covers UK & US
I'm not sure where this other US cover is from, but I don't like it as much as I do the UK cover. There are too many weird pokey-looking stars for my taste. But the UK cover...well, that one I like. The color is just right, and the angle and crop of the picture is just perfect to make the girls look bada**.

What are your thoughts?
Which covers do you like? Which do you hate?

Thanks for joining me for Foreign Cover Friday!

If you have a FCF post to share, include your link below.

  1. Love the German cover! The hand placement of the Polish cover...kind of awkward.

  2. I prefer the Spanish cover but I don't love any of them really.

  3. idk why, but I really like the US covers on this one :) even if there is no cat in the actual story!

  4. I LOVE the Spanish cover, but I don't really see the correlation between it and the storyline. The Bulgarian one really doesn't make much sense and I have read the books lol. I do love the US cover too because it shows Sophie as the timid new girl type, it's super cute, but that UK cover has me hooked! It's got a similar concept as the original US cover with the shadows being a reflection of who the girls really are just like on the US cover it's actually a lake that reflects who Sophie really is. You should definitely read the series though, they're really good.

  5. The German cover is by far my fave! I'm so glad they changed the UK cover design for Raising Demons because I did not like the UK cover for Hex Hall AT ALL!

  6. The Polish cover is totally channelling The Craft, which was THE witch movie for girls growing up in the 90s.
The Bulgarian cover is full of fail.

  7. OMG Bulgarian and Polish are too slutty ;) LOL
German and Spanish are pretty cool.
But ultimately I think I like the US & UK ones.

  8. Candice: OMG, I didn't even notice that about the Polish cover! Awk-ward!!

Alexis: Love that smoke on that cover. :) Thanks for stopping by!

Diana: I do, too! Well, except for the second US one. ;)

Jessica: SO good to know that's not what I'll find in the book. :) Yeah, the US and UK covers are awesome!

Leanna: Lol, I love the UK cover, but agree that the German cover is so pretty!

Lissa: Wow, it totally does! I've never seen The Craft, but my older brothers loved it, growing up.

Juju: Yep, totally! That Bulgarian cover, especially is...yeah, slutty. I can't even try to edge around it. Lol.

  9. hmm sorry to say this, but the cover of the Bulgarian translation looks really cheap. something you'd expect to find on the bottom shelf in the adult section of the video store...
the german cover is a bit boring maybe but much more fitting for a book i think... the first one (french turkish etc) is by far the best of them all

  10. Skivakumar: Thanks for stopping by! I love your thoughts about the Bulgarian language cover; I agree completely.

Thanks for commenting! I read each and every one, and reply as soon as I can :)

Please note: The Reading Fever is an award-free zone. I am very flattered, but comments are all the thanks I need.
