Utah Festival of Books + Giveaway! *Closed*

I wasn't able to go to BEA this year, but I was able to attend the first annual Utah Festival of Books last Saturday and it was so cool, it made up for a bunch of my disappointment in not being able to go to BEA. I went alone, since no one else in my family appreciates books as much as I do, and my friends are world travelers at the moment. :) I'm pretty new at doing the whole book-lovers-gathering thing, but it was nothing but fun and exciting for me. I even got to finally see the popular David Archuleta with my own eyes.

Some highlights of the day:

First and foremost: there were so many amazing authors! This link will take you to the list of authors who attended. They gave speeches, were on panels, and signed books. The authors were lining the sidewalk at little booths for signing, and my bookish self got all emotional inside at the sight every time I walked by (total newbie, I know).

Kiersten White, author of Paranormalcy

Jessica day George, author of many books, most notably, Dragon Slippers.

Elana Johnson, author of Possession, which hits stores tomorrow!!

I stood in a few signing lines and was able to get some books signed for myself, and for my little cousin who reads as much as I do. I wanted to get some books signed by Brandon Mull for both of us, but his line stretched on forever! People started lining up before he was even finished speaking, and by the time he made it over to the signing booth, it was already so far, I couldn't see the end. Luckily he seems to do a lot of signings in Utah, so I'm seriously hoping pretty sure I'll have another opportunity.

Yes, that is a finished copy of Possession you see on top! I stood in Elana Johnson's signing line expecting to have her sign a bookmark or something, when I noticed people had copies of her book (it's not released until tomorrow)! The gentleman in front of me told me there was one copy left in the bookstore, so I booked it and got the very last copy! I considered using it for this giveaway, but I'm really just too selfish to do that. It's just so pretty and sparkly! Don't worry though; I have a signed bookmark to giveaway, along with a few other things. BTW, Elana Johnson is freaking awesome!

Aside from all the stuff I got for myself, I did get my little one a couple books too (see? I'm not completely selfish) :) He loves them already.

I sat and listened to the Women's Author's Panel discussion, which included Ann Dee Ellis, Jessica Day George, Kiersten White, Aprilynne Pike, and Kristen Landon, and was conducted by Ann Cannon. It was very funny, and they all had wonderful input on the topics. I was very intrigued by Kristen Landon, an author I hadn't heard of before, and I ran to buy her book (The Limit) after the discussion then hurried back and begged her to sign it for me. She did. :)
I recorded the discussion, so If anyone is interested just let me know and I'll send the links...or maybe even do another blog post.

Speaking of amazing authors--or rather, photographers--I met Eva Timothy, who is an amazing photographer, and has a book called Lost in Learning. Her eye for photography is inspiring! She photographed the art of the Renaissance period in such a unique and dramatic way. She was also the sweetest woman! The short chat I had with her inspired me to pick up photography again. I stopped after my son went into the hospital last year, and wasn't sure if I would start again. Decision made.

I'm trying to make this post as short as I can, but I'm finding I just have too much to talk about. :) Here are some photos of the banners everyone got to sign. I thought there were all especially powerful signs of the power of reading. The three above are all favorite books (can you find mine?), and the two below are photos of signed pledges to read and track minutes at Read Today

Last, but not least: I got to meet two book bloggers at the festival! I met Enna Isilee from Squeaky Books, and Emily from Emily's Reading Room (who it took me walking past seven or eight times to work up the courage to say hi...newbie jitters). I got home and found out that there were others there that I missed! Next time, I'm going to have to organize meetings with all these cool bloggers or something. :)

Okay, okay, I'm done talking now. On to the giveaway!
