What's a girl to do when meeting The One means she's cursed to die a horrible death?

Life hasn't been easy on sixteen-year-old Emma Conner, so a new start in New York may be just the change she needs. But the posh Upper East Side prep school she has to attend? Not so much. Friendly faces are few and far between, except for one that she's irresistibly drawn to—Brendan Salinger, the guy with the rock-star good looks and the richest kid in school, who might just be her very own white knight.

But even when Brendan inexplicably turns cold, Emma can't stop staring. Ever since she laid eyes on him, strange things have been happening. Streetlamps go out wherever she walks, and Emma's been having the oddest dreams: visions of herself in past lives—visions that arn her to stay away from Brendan. Or else.

When I first started reading Spellbound, I wasn't sure that I would like it. It follows basically all of your typical story line for starcrossed love. There's the mean jock character, the mean girl, the odd best friend, the stunningly hot love interest, the curse, and the boarding school where it all goes down. As far as the story line goes, there isn't anything terribly innovative. The main characters fall in love quickly, the mean girl hates the main character for seemingly no reason, and the main character even fails to follow the number one rule of safety: don't go off alone.

Yet despite all that, Spellbound does an incredible job of keeping the reader entertained and satisfied. I don't think there is anything wrong with a cliched love story, as long as it is done right. Sometimes you just have that need for light romances that make your heart race. This is one of them.

The main characters are interesting and despite falling in love almost instantly, they each add something great to the story. Even the secondary characters had some really good personality. Emma, the MC, is able to take care of herself, which includes standing up to the people who would try to bully her. Brendan is, well, extremely well-muscled and handsome...and happens to DJ on the side. That's hot! :)

What I really, really liked is the curse. While not completely original, it is pretty different from the norm, and the delivery is fantastic. I won't say more, or else I would spoil it. Though I will say that the romance is pretty hot. There's some fun banter, a few tantalizing touches, and then the looks! This is definitely a good book for the beach, or a summer trip. If you are looking for something light, fun, and romantic, this is your book.

Read this if:
...you want a light, romantic read, with some good action.
