This week, I am eagerly waiting on:

Wildefire by Karsten Knight
Publisher: Simon & Schuster books for Young Readers
Genre: Young Adult Fantasy, Mythology
Publication Date: 7.26.2011
Every flame begins with a spark.

Ashline Wilde is having a rough sophomore year. She’s struggling to find her place as the only Polynesian girl in school, her boyfriend just cheated on her, and now her runaway sister, Eve, has decided to barge back into her life. When Eve’s violent behavior escalates and she does the unthinkable, Ash transfers to a remote private school nestled in California’s redwoods, hoping to put the tragedy behind her. But her fresh start at Blackwood Academy doesn’t go as planned. Just as Ash is beginning to enjoy the perks of her new school—being captain of the tennis team, a steamy romance with a hot, local park ranger—Ash discovers that a group of gods and goddesses have mysteriously enrolled at Blackwood…and she’s one of them. To make matters worse, Eve has resurfaced to haunt Ash, and she’s got some strange abilities of her own. With a war between the gods looming over campus, Ash must master the new fire smoldering within before she clashes with her sister one more time… And when warm and cold fronts collide, there’s guaranteed to be a storm.

So this is one of those you had me at "hello" books, because the moment I read that the main character is a Polynesian girl, I knew I would be reading it as soon as it comes out. Also notable, is the fact that the book is released in my birthday month, making it seem like fate that I should happen across the title while searching for a different book. From the description, it seems to have everything I love: romance, danger, teen angst, and even gods and goddesses! And then there's the shining red cherry on top, that is the nationality of the main character matching my own. This is definitely fate. I can't wait to get my hands on this book!!

P.S. I know I always talk about the covers, but I can't help it...I'm cover-obsessed! This one is particularly striking, with the gorgeous black calla lilies, and smoke coming out of the lavender one in the center, leading up to the title....

    Here's my WOW.

  10. Nickey: Well, good choice then! I can't believe I haven't seen it until now, but it seems everyone already knows about it!

Aleetha: I believe so. The description talks about gods and goddesses, to I am expecting some sort of remake of the Greek myths.

    Juju: Agreed!

Mia: Thanks! I'm excited to read it. :)

Laurel: You know, I didn't even realize that about her name until you pointed it out. I'm excited to see hoe the author uses that!

    Karis: Yay! Happy reading!

Jen: Woohoo! Thanks for following! :)

Melissa: I totally agree. Gods and goddesses are so fun to read about!

Carmel: Thank you! I've seen it in a few other places today, but I'm sure now that I'm looking for it, I'll see it quite often. :)

  11. Thanks so much for the great WoW on Wildefire! I hope the story lives up to the gorgeous cover S&S crafted for it :) Can't wait to hear what you think.

And to answer one of the questions above--while there are a lot of world mythologies involved, the central focus is the Polynesian volcano goddess Pele.

  12. That looks good. Where do you find updates on new releases? just curious.

  13. Chelsey: We totally picked the same book; definitely great minds!

Karsten: Thanks for visiting! I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't even think of the goddess Pele...a sure sign that I'm reading too many Greek myth remakes!

Jessica: It does! :) I usually find my new releases in three places: Goodreads, Waiting on Wednesday, and Twitter.
On Goodreads, you can search for 2011 new releases and come up with whole lists of them, or I almost always happen across a new book while looking through other random books.
For WOW, I just take note of the books I am interested in, and add them to a Goodreads list to use in future WOW posts, or to buy when they come out.
On Twitter, I follow a bunch of authors, who regulatory tweet and blog about their new books, and also their friend's new books.

    Hope that helps!

Thanks for commenting! I read each and every one, and reply as soon as I can :)

Please note: The Reading Fever is an award-free zone. I am very flattered, but comments are all the thanks I need.
