This week, I am Waiting On:
Publisher: Scholastic Press
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary Fiction
Publication Date: 5.24.11
From bestselling, Printz Award-winning author Libba Bray, the story of a plane of beauty pageant contestants that crashes on a desert island.Teen beauty queens. A "Lost"-like island. Mysteries and dangers. No access to email. And the spirit of fierce, feral competition that lives underground in girls, a savage brutality that can only be revealed by a journey into the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Oh, the horror, the horror! Only funnier. With evening gowns. And a body count.
Before I even start in on what draws me to this book, can I just say how much I loved Libba Bray's Gemma Doyle trilogy? Because I loved it A LOT. And while I realize that Beauty Queens will be nothing like the Gemma Doyle trilogy (it's not even the same genre!), the first reason I wanted to read it was still because Libba Bray wrote it. She is a captivating writer.
And now: what draws me to this book? Why am I waiting--eagerly waiting--for its release? Take a look at that cover please, and try to tell me you aren't interested to find out more about it. Next, read that description and tell me you didn't laugh to yourself and think: "Hah! Stupid beauty queens. Serves them right for being so unabashedly beautiful." Oh, the horror!
I rest my case.
I NEED to get my hands on this book!
